We are seeking a qualified safety professional to join our safety team. Will be responsible for developing and coordinating a compliant Safety Program for West Coast locations. Establish and promote the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment that is consistent between all locations
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Direct/lead in the development, implementation, and enforcement of all safety programs, policies, and procedures to assure a safe and healthy work environment that is in compliance with appropriate state and federal agencies (OSHA, ANSI, NIOSH, etc.)
- Make recommendations to management to help establish and promote a culture of safety and long-term injury reduction.
- Review, monitor, and manage workers compensation claims. Including early return to work, time loss, monitoring claim progress, and communication with workers compensation carriers (adjusters, loss control, underwriters, etc.) and BNI management.
- Inspect the facilities of the organization and observe all work areas. Interact with personnel to detect existing or potential hazards. Research and help implement programs and procedures to assure corrective or preventative measures are taken when necessary.
- Actively participate in the investigation of accidents, injuries, incidents, and near misses. Work directly with area supervisors/managers to develop and implement practices, programs, and training to reduce the risk of further incidents/ accidents.
- Travel and communicate with all West Coast operations. Quarterly visit to Sunnyside, WA. or more often when needed.
- Represent BNI in communications with regulatory agencies including onsite inspections, responses to inquiries, understanding regulations, etc.
- Work with the Safety Director, area managers and others to Develop, review, and update written safety policies, programs, trainings, and procedures.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Degree or certification in safety and/or acceptable related experience. Additional training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Have strong working knowledge of Federal and State regulations applicable to the nursery industry.
- Good oral, written, reading and communication skills.
- Initiative-taking
- Ability to multitask (phone, computer)
- Basic math skills (auditing logbooks, air quality testing, OSHA logs, etc.)
- Ability to train small groups (15-20 people) and conduct meetings.
- Work a flexible schedule based on needs.
- Ability to work with other/mixed cultures and languages.
