As our Plant Buyer, you will play a pivotal role in sourcing and procuring a diverse range of plants, trees, and landscaping material that align with our nursery's high standards. You will be responsible for maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, analyzing market trends, and ensuring that our inventory remains diverse, healthy, and appealing to our customer base.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supplier Relationship Management: Develop and nurture relationships with local and regional plant and landscaping suppliers. Negotiate terms, pricing, and contracts to ensure the best possible deals for the nursery.
- Product Sourcing: Conduct thorough market research to identify the latest plant and landscaping trends, new species, and innovative products. Source high-quality plants and materials that cater to our customers' preferences and local climate conditions.
- Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of plants, trees, and landscaping products. Monitor stock levels, track sales performance, and ensure a balanced assortment of products to meet customer demand.
- Quality Control: Inspect incoming shipments for quality, health, and accuracy. Ensure that all products meet our nursery's standards and are free from pests and diseases.
- Price Analysis: Regularly analyze pricing trends, competitive offerings, and market fluctuations. Adjust purchasing strategies to ensure competitive pricing while maintaining profitability.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the sales team to understand customer needs, anticipate demand, and tailor product offerings accordingly. Collaborate with the operations team to ensure efficient handling, care, and display of products.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in plant or landscaping product procurement, preferably in a wholesale nursery environment.
- Strong knowledge of plant species, horticultural practices, and landscaping trends.
- Exceptional negotiation and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate records.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management software.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to supplier locations as needed.
