Nurseryman Needed for Tree Nursery and Hay Farming Operation
Trail Canyon Ranch is seeking an experienced, full time nurseryman for a wholesale tree nursery in Cortez, Colorado.
The ideal person for this job will have knowledge of sustainable, year-round agricultural production, a good work ethic, willingness to learn, and hands-on experience working in a wholesale nursery setting.
This position is full time and seasonal, in that in spring, summer and fall there is more activity and work to be done than in winter. This is a great opportunity for learning and advancing your skills in nursery management and horticulture.
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized team player, capable of taking direction from the owner and working independently with minimum supervision.
The person we hire will manage the day-to-day operation of our tree farm, storage and holding yards, and be responsible for overall farming, irrigation, plant growth, health, and all related nursery maintenance and logistics. He/she will have experience working in a nursery - watering, spraying weeds, moving containers, planting and pruning.
Our ideal person has a solid horticultural, farming or landscaping background, and a working knowledge of growing operations - including some experience with plant identification, irrigation practices, fertilizer applications, and insect and disease control.
Our ideal candidate will be willing to make a long-term commitment and possess the following qualifications and experience:
Required Experience
Minimum two years as a nurseryman or arborist, or equivalent experience
Knowledge of soil biology, composting, and/or other ecological growing methods
Knowledge of large caliper tree production, soils, fertilizers and pesticides
Experience in operating and the basic maintenance of farm equipment
Plant delivery and installation of trees and shrubs
Excellent organizational, communication, collaboration and leadership skills
Computer skills - with ability to keep accurate nursery inventory using MS Excel
Experience in the cutting, bailing and storage of hay, irrigation and pasture management

Salary
$20 - $22/hour, open to higher pay depending on experience
