Victory Gardens is a small family run landscaping company in Savannah Georgia that got its start about ten years ago installing raised beds for the community that has since grown to do that and much more. We have a small nursery, landscape maintenance department, and landscape installations department operating out of a former dairy farm right between Savannah and the beautiful marshland between town and the coast. We have a tight knit group of about 15. The best part of working here is the people. We operate using organic practices in our nursery and maintenance and installation projects and emphasize planting natives and edibles wherever possible. Most of our business now is in installing high end landscapes around town and this position would be a part of that team.
This is a hands on position doing hard work outside. The crew lead will report to management and work closely with their crew of two to three team members on a day to day basis. Communication with management and their crew is the leader’s primary responsibility. The crew leader will be responsible for understanding the goals for the day given by management, making sure all necessary tools are collected, and delegating tasks to their crew to achieve said goals in the most efficient way possible. The right candidate will be detail oriented, easy to get along with, have a good sense of urgency, have a passion for creating beautiful ecological and abundant spaces, and have experience in organic gardening, horticulture, hardscaping, irrigation, carpentry work or just general knowledge of tools and construction from experience in trades. Candidates with extensive knowledge of the plants used will be preferred. Must be able to lift 50 pounds as matter of course. Must be comfortable or trainable in driving large truck and trailer. Experience operating other machinery is a plus.
Daily tasks to include: installation of flowers and landscape beds, sod, paver patios, irrigation systems, drainage systems, landscape lighting systems, planting of native and non native trees, shrubs and perennials. Weeding, pruning, demoing existing landscapes and hardscapes, moving materials, transplanting and using electric and gas powered tools.
We work Monday-Thursday 7-5 for a full time week and push to Fridays if we miss time due to inclement weather. We enjoy our three day weekends so we do our best to keep them intact, but will never ask our crews to work in dangerous weather. Our employees accrue 3 weeks of PTO per year, and are eligible for 3% matched simple IRA through the company.
