Nursery Production Manager
Ocean Wholesale Nursery is looking for a motivated Nursery Production Manager who oversees all horticultural functions related to inventory our nursery. Our ideal candidate should have a passion for trees/shrubs and the processes involved in maintaining the highest level of nursery stock. This individual should also possess strong leadership skills and the ability to lead a team.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Sales, customer service, irrigation maintenance, fertilizing, insect, and disease control, along with application of herbicides and pesticides, and mechanical ability
- Using knowledge of plants and diseases to assist in corrective treatment and application
- Coordinate with General Manager regarding future plant needs and availability
- Schedule the pickup and delivery of plant material to the Nursery to ensure proper inventory levels
- Analyzing nursery needs: forecasting staff and materials required to complete future jobs
- Monitoring watering times, soil conditions, and plant positions
- Train nursery staff and delegating duties
- Operating farming equipment such as: loaders, skid steers, tractors, and hand power tools.
- Work with Accounting Department to compile and analyze production costs by product type and keep accurate computerized inventory records
The Right Candidate has:
- Passion for customer service
- Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or similar field (preferred, but not required)
- 2+ years’ experience in Nursery production or Horticultural management position required
- Pesticide Applicators License (preferred, but not required)
- Punctual, Reliable, Dependable
- Extreme attention to detail
- Knowledge of plants, funguses, insects, and diseases
- Knowledge of irrigation systems
- Ability to run a crew of 10 or more
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Good communication skills
- Problem solver and critical thinker
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift/carry materials up to 50lbs, move about the work site, communicate efficiently and effectively on the telephone or in person, and complete required paperwork. Exposed to dust, pollen, chemicals, cold and heat in an external environment. Requires extended periods of walking, standing, kneeling, bending, and lifting, up to 100% of a workday.
