JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Plant Curatorial Fellow will research and document Winterthur’s historic daffodil collection. This will include reviewing existing documentation and then photographing and mapping any remaining cultivars and beds. Research will include finding sources for historic daffodil cultivars, photographs and descriptions to aid in identification. The Fellow will work with the garden curatorial staff to centralize the data on our daffodil collection in GIS and ContentDM. The Fellow will then create a digital Story Map using GIS technology to tell the story of the daffodils at Winterthur and to promote their use in the home garden. They will also work with staff to develop preliminary plans to restore daffodil beds as needed.
This fellowship is a temporary position, end one year from date of hire.
Compensation: $15.00/hour
Work Schedule: This can be a part time or full time fellowship depending on the availability of the candidate. Candidate can choose to establish a schedule with the supervisor ranging from 20-35 hours/week.

Responsibilities:
- Review existing documentation- written and visual
- Plan and implement the mapping and photography of daffodil beds as needed
- Data entry into GIS and ContentDM
- Design and creation of GIS Story-map
- Research historic daffodil cultivar sources, photography and description to aid in identification.
- Work with staff on developing initial plans for bed restorations
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Experience: Bachelor of Science or Arts with college course work in research, plants or design
Preferred Education: BS or BA in plant science, environmental science, history, or a related field, with experience with a plant records program, GIS – Story Map, photography and design
Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent research skills with high level of critical/logical and creative/innovative thinking, coupled with demonstrated experience writing
- Effective communication skills (written and oral)
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft) required; knowledge of GIS and plant records systems is desirable
- Design skills to create a visual appealing Story-map
- Ability to work independently
Essential Functions:
- Ability to work at a computer for up to 8 hours a day
- Ability to walk over rough terrain
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in order to operate Winterthur vehicles
